The spectacle of Aurora Borealis or the Arctic Northern Lights, which appears and tear the heavens apart with their beauty, requires dark and partly clear skies, valid for the timing of sunset, the darkness before sunrise and moonrise.
Iceland is positioned geographically perfectly to see the lights of the Northern Lights between October and April. The peak viewing season for the northern lights is close to midwinter as possible, when the nights are long in Iceland (during the winter solstice, darkness can extend for approximately 19 hours).
