Описание: The Holy Mandylion of Christ is an imprint (not made by human hand) of the face of the Savior on a napkin, with which he wiped His Face. With this cloth is cured of leprosy the ruler of Edessa, Abgar, when he pressed the holy object to his face. Set in a niche over the city gates, the Holy Mandylion rescues the city of Edessa in 545 from the siege of the Persian emperor Chozroes I. In the year 944, the emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitos paid a ransom for the Holy Face of Edessa and the icon of the Savior was transfered to Constantinople. According to the Orthodox tradition, the Holy Mandylion is a burial shroud of Christ.
