The painting 'Maying of Queen Guinevere' is a beautiful scene from the legends about queen Guinevere (oil on canvas, Neoclassical, circa 1900, Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford, England), painted by one of the leading English artists John Collier (1850-1934) and a prominent portrait painter of his generation in the Pre-Raphaelite style.
Queen Guinevere is depicted regal, in a white gown with a golden girdle, riding a white horse through the woods in the spring. She is an object of wonder, outshining the blossoms in her hands. She is accompanied by two servants leading her horse and an another man, carrying a maidservant behind him.
According to the Arthurian legend, Guinevere was the Queen consort of King Arthur. In medieval romances, one of the most famous stories was her love affair with Sir Lancelot, a chief knight of king Arthur.
