Emperor Moth Female - Emperor Moth (Saturnia pavonia) is a large moth in family Saturniidae, widely distributed in most parts of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, inhabiting woodland ridges, moorland and heathland, bogs and fens, hedgerows, scrubs and sand dunes.<br />
The male has a wingspan of about 60 mm and more intensely brown-white coloring with bright orange on hind-wings, in contrast to the female, which has larger wingspan about 80 mm, but is more paler colored in bluish-grey. Both have wings adorned with huge 'eye-spots', which play a role of camouflage.
