Bulgarian Easter Eggs and Kozunak - Easter traditions in Bulgaria are a variation of the Eastern Orthodox Church rituals. Easter is one of the most significant holidays in the Bulgarian calendar, starting with Palm Sunday and marks the end of the Lent. Easter is a Christian holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead three days after his crucifixion on Good Friday.<br />
Symbol of the Resurrection is the egg. According to Bulgarian Easter traditions, the eggs are dyed on Holy Thursday, early in the morning. The first egg must be dyed in red color, which symbolize the blood of Christ and is put in front of the household icon, to protect the house. The oldest woman in the house touches the children’s faces with it in order to ensure future health, luck, happiness and prosperity.
