Red is considered the color of luck and predominate from among the decorations for Chinese New Year. Once the new year arrives, new red outfits are worn to visit relatives and friends, to exchange blessings and gifts.
On the day itself, an ancient custom called Hong Bao, meaning Red Packet, takes place. Married couples are giving their children, their parents and unmarried adults money for good fortune in red paper envelopes. Coins are tied with a red color ribbon.
The assorted decorations include imitation of gold ingots in shape of boats, that are used to attract wealth into home or office.
The fire-crackers with fireworks will be set off to scare away evil spirits and to signal the start of a safe and prosperous new year.
