Easter Еgg with Russian Icon Description:
A fragment of a hand painted Easter egg, depicting the Russian Orthodox icon 'Assuage My Sorrows', an uncommon name, which sounds more like a prayer pronounced from the bottom of one's heart in a sorrowful time. The origin of this miracle-working image of the Mother of God is unknown. Under the reign of Tsar Michael Fyodorovitch (1613-1645), a copy of this icon was placed by the Cossacks in the Church of St. Nicholas in Zamoskovoretchie, Moscow, in honour of the battle near Shklova in 1640, where the Russians defeated the Poles.
