Описание: Goliath Birdwing (Ornithoptera goliath) is birdwing butterfly from Swallowtail family, which lives in rainforests of New Guinea and is named after Goliath, the biblical giant, famous for his battle with the young David, the future king of Israel. Ornithoptera goliath is a second largest butterfly in the world after the 'Queen Alexandra Birdwing', with a wingspan up to 28 cm. It has slow but powerful birdlike flight. The male has specific colouring at the under side and cannot easily be seen when resting in the warmer hours of the day. Females are resting with open wings.
Due to their exceptional size and brightly colouring, Goliath Birdwing are popular among collectors of butterflies.
