Interior of St.Basils Cathedral Moskow Russia Descripción
The St.Basil’s Cathedralin Moskow, Russia, is a beautiful work of architectural brilliance, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The construction started in 1552 when the Czar Ivan the Terrible commissioned the landmark to commemorate his various victories during the Russo-Kazan War. For each victory, he added one church. The last addition of the church, the 10th chapel, is home to the grave of Saint Vasily (St. Basil), very popular among the locals, who died during the construction of the Church.
The interior of the St Basil's Cathedral, which is now a museum is a maze of galleries. These galleries are connected from chapel to chapel and level to level through narrow stairways and low arches.
The Cathedral was originally known as Trinity Church, while the main sanctuary within is dedicated to the Intercession of Mary.
