Wallpaper with a martenitsa, tied on a sprig of almond tree, laden with delicate pink blossoms. The exchanging of martenitsas, an amulet with white and red tassels, for health and happiness on the first day of March, is a tradition unique to Bulgarian culture. According to tradition martenitsa is worn until the person sees the first signs of spring, a stork or a blooming fruit tree and hung up on a branch for good luck, health and prosperity.
