In Bulgaria spring is the most expected and beloved season. Coming of the spring is accompanied by celebrating of 'Baba Marta', which starts on 1st March when people give to each other little mascots made of red and white thread, called 'Martenitsa', which symbolize spring and love.
According to Bulgarian folklore tradition, one to wear a martenitsa until one sees a stork, or a tree with new leaves or blossom, and hang it on a branch, so one has luck hold during the whole year. The red color, the color of blood, represents life and white color, the color of dove, represents peace.
