The mountain lion (also known as the cougar, puma, panther, or catamount) is a large cat species native to the America, which spans from the Canadian Yukon to the southern Andes in South America, the greatest of range of any large wild terrestrial mammals in the Western Hemisphere. Like all cats, mountain lions are strict carnivores, stealthy predators, which are hunting at night and often lying in wait for prey or silently stalking it before attacking from behind with a lethal bite to the spinal cord.
