Saint Tryphon Day of the Grower Description: 
Saint Tryphon is a Christian priest who is considered to be the keeper of the vineyards, who is often depicted as a young man with different cutting tools. Legend has it that he was brother of the Virgin Mary and is known for his healing abilities. Tryphon Zarezan (or the Day of the Grower) is a Bulgarian folk festival in honour of Saint Tryphon. Traditionally on this day is done symbolically first pruning of the vineyards for encouraging the growth of the vines. Tryphon Zarezan is celebrated by wine growers, falconers, gardeners and innkeepers on 14th of February (according to the Gregorian calendar) or the February 1st (the Julian calendar), when the Bulgarian Orthodox Church officially honours Saint Tryphon.
