Mesaieed is a small industrial town between Doha and Al Wakrah, just 40 minutes away from Qatar’s capital. Its sand dunes are making it an increasingly popular for desert safari and day-trip adventures destination in Qatar. Here, you can paraglide or bounce over the dunes in a 4x4 as the sun sets over the desert.
The sand dunes on the eastern coast are known as 'singing sands' because of the sounds they produce.
Mesaieed was established in 1949 as a tanker terminal by QatarEnergy on a uninhabited site along the coast. It was chosen because of its proximity to the working population in Doha and Al Wakrah and because of the depth of its waters, as the only deep water port in Qatar.
