To witness all-white swallow, which may be seen only one amongst several million birds, is an amazing experience. This beautiful bird with perfectly snow white plumage is a normal Barn Swallow, but with a genetic mutation called leucism, that prevents pigment, particularly melanin, from being properly deposited on its feathers. Not to be confused with Albinism, which affects all the pigments, as in the skin, so the eyes.
It is believed that seeing a white swallow is a great happiness. As the white swallow is extremely rare, people accept it as a symbol of faith, hope and new life.
