The 14th of February is known worldwide as St. Valentine’s Day. However, this day has an additional significance in Bulgaria. On February 14 (old style) is celebrated the annual wine festival, called 'Trifon Zarezan'.
This is a centuries-old tradition on this day, also known as St. Tryphon’s Day to celebrate winegrowers, winemakers and gardeners.
Trifon Zarezan marks the first day of vine pruning as cutting the unnecessary branches from the vines at the beginning of February.
