Pholiota squarrosa (shaggy Pholiota) is a species of mushroom in family Strophariaceae, widespread in North America, north from Canada south to Mexico and in Europe. The fruit bodies are with an odor of garlic, taste like radish, with higher protein content than the other mushrooms and are used as a primary food source by the red squirrel, but they are poisonous with toxic effect, especially if consumed in combination with alcohol.
