'Adoration of the Shepherds', painting depicting the birth of Jesus Christ by Gerard van Honthorst (1592-1656), a Dutch painter of the 'Golden Age', also known as Gerrit van Honthorst from Utrecht, the Netherlands. In Italy he was nicknamed as 'Gherardo delle Notti' (Gerard of the night) for his nighttime artificially lit scenes. His portrait painting style was influenced the contemporary artists as Caravaggio, Bartolomeo Manfredi and the Carracci.
