Lovely painting by the popular English fantasy artist and sculptor Josephine Wall (born May 1947 in Farnham, Surrey), depicting the beautiful Lady Godiva from medieval England. According to the famous English legend, when Lady Godiva is pleading her husband to lower taxation on the citizens, she should choose to pass through the streets of Coventry, covered only with her long golden hair. The actual name of Lady Godiva was Countess Godgifu of Mercia, an Anglo Saxon noblewoman, married to Earl Leofric. It is not certain how true is this story, but according to the documents, the taxes had been lowered.
