Clearwing Butterfly Descripción
An ethereal and delicate Clearwing (Glasswing) butterfly from an Ithomiid family. Clearwing butterflies, known as the Ithomiinae, are beautiful and deadly butterflies inhabiting the tropical forest. Most of the species have no pigmented scales on their wings, which makes the wings of others butterflies so colorful. This transparency renders the clearwing butterflies elusive. They are native to the Amazon, Mexico and Central America. Clearwing butterfly feeds on flowers full of pyrrolizidine alkaloid toxins, because of which the predators avoid Ithomiid. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids may damage the liver and cause death in some cases.
