The European Peacock (Aglais io), commonly known as Peacock butterfly, is an attractive colourful butterfly, with rusty-red colour of the wings and distinctive black, blue and yellow eye spots, which frighten away predators. The under side is dark-brown or black. The butterfly has a wingspan of 50 to 55 mm. The European Peacock is widespread in woods, fields, meadows, pastures, parks, gardens and from lowlands of Europe and the temperate parts of Asia and Eastern Japan.
