The Tropical Blue Wave, Blue-banded Purplewing or Royal Blue (Myscelia cyaniris), a.k.a. Cyan Bluewing from Nymphalidae family, is a small but striking beautiful butterfly with iridescent blue stripes of across upperside of wings. The underside is camouflaged in gray and brown, resembling a tree bark. Its wingspan is up to 3 inch.
The Tropical Blue Wave butterfly is widespread in Central America and northern South America, from Mexico to Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru, inhabiting rainforests at sea level to 700 m. Adults usually feed on rotting fruit and animal dung.
