Papilio palinurus has a wingspan about 8–10 cm. Its name comes from the <br />
stunning emerald color that literally sparkles on the wings. The green sheen comes from mixing of the yellow and the blue color of the overlapping flakes on the wings, which refract the light. The broad bright emerald green metallic bands and black patterns on the wings, resemble coloration of the peacock, which distinguish them apart from other species. <br />
