Old World Swallowtail, known as the Common Yellow Swallowtail or simply Swallowtail (Papilio machaon) is a butterfly of the genus Papilio in family Papilionidae. Despite the common name, it is not restricted only to the Old World. Papilio machaon is widespread throughout Europe, Asia and across North America. It has pale yellow wings and a wingspan of 65-86 millimeters, marked with black veins, and a pair of protruding tails which give the name of this butterfly with a red 'eye-spots' on each tail.
The Old World Swallowtail butterfly has a strong and fast flight and frequently visits alpine meadows and hillsides. At the lower elevations, it can be seen in the gardens, where feeds on plants of family Umbelliferae.
