Leopard Lacewing Butterfly Female Descripción
Leopard Lacewing (Cethosia cyane) is a species of Heliconia butterfly, native to South and Southeast Asia and widespread from India to the southern China and Indochina. Plenty of migrating butterflies were recently discovered in the southern part of the Malay Peninsula, including Singapore.
The male and a female of the Leopard Lacewing do not look alike, which is called sexual dimorphism. The females have similar markings, but are not as bright as the males.
In its natural habitat, Leopard Lacewing lays its eggs on Passiflora foetida, which is commonly found in wastelands. The chemicals from the host plant defend the caterpillars against predators.
