Denali (also called as Mount McKinley) lies in the middle of Alaska and is the highest mountain in North America.
Denali is the Alaskan's native name for the mountain. The highest peak in North America has been known as Mount McKinley since 1896, when a prospector William Dickey named the mountain after an Ohioan from Niles, McKinley, then a presidential nominee, who was assassinated six months into his second term in 1901.
In 2015, a day before the president Obama was set to visit the state, the White House announced, that Denali was restored as official name for North America’s tallest peak.
