Baba Marta Day in Bulgaria Descripción

Baba Marta Day is a Bulgarian tradition, celebrated in Bulgaria on every 1st March, as a symbol of the coming spring.
It is one of the oldest pagan traditions in Christian Europe, coinciding with the transition of winter into spring.
'Baba' is Bulgarian for 'grandmother' and 'Marta' is 'March', so it is 'Grandmother March Day' or 'Granny March Day' in English.
Baba Marta (Granny March) is a mythical figure of Bulgarian folklore with capricious character, as is the weather of March.
Grandma March likes red, which makes her happy and calm. Therefore, for Baba Marta's day, are given to each other martenitsi, small amulets made of twisted red and white threads, to keep Baba Marta from getting angry and the weather from going bad.
