Tall bearded iris 'Chestnuts Roasting' (Lesley Blyth, 2010), with late midseason bloom from Schreiner's Iris Gardens, Salem, Oregon, USA.
The blossom is medium brown with mustard gold midribs, ruffled and musky fragrance.
The Schreiner family have been breeding iris since 1925 and today, Schreiner's Iris Gardens displays 500 wonderful varieties of irises over 10 acres, each with their own uniqueness and vibrant colors.
The stunning colors and a plethora of varieties of irises most likely inspired the ancient Greeks to name the revered flower after the eponymous goddess who traveled by rainbow.
