Germanicus Julius Caesar, born in 15 BC, was a prominent Roman general, politician and a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, widely respected for his military successes and his popularity among the Roman people, most famously known for his campaigns against Arminius in Germania.
Originally, all the decor of the Grand Cascade consisted of the lead gilded sculptures, that lost their former beauty by the end of the XVIII century. They were replaced in bronze, with the copies of works of the antiquity and renaissance masters, as well as 15 original masterpieces of the best domestic sculptors of the time.
