Fragment of 'No walk today' (1856 or 1957, oil on canvas, private collection), by Sophie Gengembre Anderson (1823-1903), a French-born British artist, landscape painter and illustrator, a wonderful and realistic painting of childhood, depicting the disappointment of a little girl dressed up for a walk which has been cancelled because of rain. The painting was purchased by Sir David only for 14 guineas on an auction in London in 1926 and sold in 2008 at Sotheby's auction for ?1,038,050.
