Beautiful autumn scene with a gorgeous specimen of a long-haired Collie dog (Scottish shepherd dog) and her adorable puppies.
Scotch Collie dogs were descended from an ancient wild breed of dogs, mainly from the pastoral regions of England, Scotland and Wales, which were used as herding dogs by shepherds, drovers, farmers and highlanders. Their dogs (unlike the hunting dogs), had to be hardy enough to survive and to do not require special care.
Today, the descendants of Scotch Collie (simply called the Collie) include several breeds such as Border Collies, English Shepherds, Australian Shepherds and Shetland Sheepdogs. They are further divided by the type of coat as long-haired Collies and short-haired Collies. The modern Collie is grown as a dog for companion and defender for the family and children, as a working dog, a show dog, or as a dog for performance and sports.
