One of the most beautiful spring holidays in Bulgaria is Cvetnica or Tsvetnitsa (Palm Sunday). It is celebrated on the Sunday after Lazarovden (Lazarus Saturday), one week before Easter.
In Bulgaria, the symbol of Tsvetnitsa is the willow twigs, from which comes the another name for the holiday - Vrbnitsa.
On this day, the believers go to the festive church liturgy with willow twigs or wreaths, geranium wrists and other spring flowers. Once the priest has blessed the willow wreaths, they are taken home for health and grace.
