The 'Bouquet of Lilies Clock' currently on display at the Kremlin Armory Museum in Moscow, Russia, is a jewelled Easter egg, made under the supervision of the Russian jeweller Peter Carl Faberge in 1899 for Tsar NicholasII, as an Easter gift to his wife, the Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna.
This is a true declaration of love for his wife. The egg uses the language of flowers which was well known at the time. In addition to bouquet of lilies, made of onyx (symbol of holiness and innocence), the clock is also decorated with a bouquet of golden roses (symbol of love).
The Bouquet of Lilies Clock egg is one of the larger FabergŠµ eggs.
The egg body is studded with diamonds and divided into 12 compartments. The dial belt that rotates around the egg is made of white enamel and has 12 Roman numerals set in diamonds. The time is displayed with a diamond watch hand in the shape of an arrowhead with a bow drawn on it. The clock mechanism operates by turning a small golden key.
The pedestal, on which the egg rests, is made of gold and has a vine pattern engraved on it. The number 1899 is the year of production. On both sides of the egg, red gold is carved like a scroll, supporting the egg on both sides.
Originally, there was a surprise here too. Ruby studded with rose-cut diamonds and a pendant attached.
The Bouquet of Lilies Clock is one of the few imperial Faberge eggs that were never sold after the Russian Revolution.
