Closeup of the 'Cibeles Fountain' situated at the 'Plaza de Cibeles' square, which in the years becomes symbolic monument of Madrid. The fountain, built in the reign of Charles III and designed by Ventura Rodr?guez between 1777 and 1782, depicts a marble sculpture of the Roman goddess of fertility Cybele (or Ceres), sitting on a chariot pulled by two lions. The goddess and chariot are the work of Francisco Gutierrez and the lions by Roberto Michel.
