The picturesque Hohenzollern Castle is located atop Mount Hohenzollern, the most beautiful mountain in the Swabian Alps, of central Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
The Hohenzollern Castle is one of the most visited majestic castles in Germany, known for its impressive architecture and picturesque setting.
The third, and current, castle was influenced by English Gothic Revival architecture, built between 1846 and 1867 as a family memorial by Hohenzollern scion King Frederick William IV of Prussia. The castle never been regularly occupied, but rather used primarily as a showpiece.
Hohenzollern Castle is a monument to German Romanticism, which incorporated an idealised vision of a medieval knight's castle.
With its many towers and fortifications, it is an acclaimed masterpiece of military architecture in the 19th century.
